The family and friends of late Nyigwo Ojulu are devastated at his death shortly after he was released from the Gambella prison where he developed life threatening illness. The late Nyigwo Ojulu was detained by the Ethiopian defence force in 2006 and was released a month ago from Gambella prison.

Born from Chief Ojulu of Pinyman village and his mother, Achalla, from Pumoli village, the late Nyigwo Ojulu left behind his wife and three sons. He was a gifted, caring and talented young man who gave so much to his family, society, and the region. The family members and friends will miss Nyigwo Ojulu forever.
The late Nyigwo Ojulu was one of the few indigenous Anywaa (Anuak) who shined in their academic performance. He completed his primary education at Akado (Pokwo) primary school, a former American missionary school. He later joined Gambella high school where he completed his secondary education.
The late Nyigwo attended Ethiopian Civil Service College where he studied Economics. He took various assignments including as Administrative and Finance officer for both Trade and Industry Bureau and Transport and Communication Bureau of the Gambella Region. He was successful in his professional life and was admired by those whom he came into contact for his communication ability, love and respect for human race.
Nyigwo Ojulu was of a remarkable personality and character. He was one of the few individuals who were determined to ensure that human rights violations against his own Anuak group are exposed to the world and he had contacted many individuals and organisations to raise awareness of gross violations of human rights in the region. His love for his region and people has made him to be respected, loved and admired by many of his community members and work colleagues.
The late Nyigwo Ojulu was a dedicated member of Catholic Church and of high morale personality. The Catholic Church in the Gambella region provided enormous support and assistance to the late Nyigwo Ojulu at time of peace and during his struggle for his life from the illness that claimed his life. The Catholic Church support and assistance to the late Nyigwo and his family members will be remembered by his friends and community members without end. The family members and friends will remember his dedication and love for God forever.
The late Nyigwo Ojulu received inadequate treatment while he was in prison and his prolong illness claimed his life and died on Sunday August 10, 2008 at Abobo Health Centre. His funeral was held in Gambella town on Monday August 11, 2008. May his Soul rest in peace.
